Listening comprehension is the test that most candidates fail in the DELE A2. It lasts 35 minutes, has 5 tasks with 25 questions, and each audio is played twice. The good news: with the right strategy and daily practice, it's the test where you can improve the fastest.

The 5 Tasks of Listening Comprehension

Task 1 — Short Conversations

Format: 5-7 brief dialogues (10-15 seconds each) about everyday situations. One question per dialogue with 3 options (A, B, C).

Typical Topics: Meeting someone, asking for a price, requesting information, making a reservation.

Strategy: Read the question and options BEFORE listening. This way, you will know exactly what information to look for (a place, a time, a price).

Task 2 — Informative Monologues

Format: One person speaks for 1-2 minutes on a topic (describes their job, shares their routine, explains a plan). 5 true/false or multiple-choice questions.

Strategy: In the first listen, grasp the general idea. In the second, look for the specific details that the questions ask for.

Task 3 — Messages and Announcements

Format: Voicemail messages, loudspeaker announcements (airport, station, store), radio notices. 5 questions.

Strategy: These audios are short and direct. Pay attention to numbers (schedules, prices, phone numbers, platforms) because the questions are often about specific data.

Task 4 — Long Conversation

Format: A 2-3 minute dialogue between two people. 5 questions about what they say, think, or plan.

Strategy: Identify who says what. The questions often ask "What does María think?" or "What is Pedro going to do?". Distinguish the voices from the beginning.

Task 5 — Match Audio with Options

Format: 5 short audios that you must match with statements, images, or situations.

Strategy: Similar to task 1 but more varied. Read all available options before listening to any audio.

What Level of Spanish is Heard in the DELE A2?

The speakers in the DELE A2 audio have these characteristics:

• They speak at a moderate speed (slower than a real conversation)
• They pronounce clearly, without much regional accent
• They use everyday vocabulary (no slang or technical terms)
• Sentences are short and direct
• Topics are predictable: shopping, transport, appointments, routines

Key Strategies for Exam Day

• Read before listening: You always have a few seconds before each audio. Use them to read questions and options.
• First listen = general idea: Don't try to catch every detail. Understand what the audio is about.
• Second listen = details: Now look for the specific data that the questions ask for.
• Don't get stuck: If you don't understand a word, don't stop. Keep listening; the context will give you the answer.
• Always answer: There is no penalty for incorrect answers. If you're unsure, eliminate the least likely option and choose between the other two.

How to Practice Listening Every Day

Beginner Level (first weeks):

• YouTube videos for A2 level with Spanish subtitles
• Podcasts for students: "Notes in Spanish" (basic level), "Español con Juan"
• Children's series or cartoons in Spanish

Intermediate Level (weeks before the exam):

• Easy news in Spanish (RTVE Noticias fácil, EFE)
• Audio from real DELE A2 exam models
• Listen without subtitles and note what you understand

Recommended Daily Routine (20-30 minutes):

• 10 min — Active listening (with questions/exercises)

The Most Common Traps
